'Entourage': 'Home Sweet Home' recap

He said on Monday's episode of Today that recovery has been "a tough slog." "I just want to thank you all," Roker said after their first song wrapped. "It's been a long, hard slog and I've missed you all very much. Seeing all these faces, just means the world to me. And you are all family. ... I just thank you all so much. I really appreciate it."

With his animated series going well, and a possible TV movie in the pipeline, the older brother is in demand more than he has been in years. Drama is his own worst enemy, and cannot allow himself to do well for long. However, with the series so close to a close, perhaps this time will be different. Fans will be disappointed if Drama is back in the unemployment line as the final credits roll, which hints that maybe this time fame will stick. What is an episode of Entourage with a decent story, some real stakes, and a notable lack of boobs?

If he cannot feel relaxed with the people he cares most about, how can he be expected to reacclimate? Worse, Vince may soon begin blaming his sobriety on their new behavior, and seek to return to an arrangement he is comfortable with, which will include alcohol and drugs. Johnny Drama actually has an acting career in “Home Sweet Home,” something he has merely yearned for throughout Entourage‘s seasons.

Does anyone know the name of the song played over the end credits of Entourage on Friday... We currently have no record of an official soundtrack album released for this season. Meanwhile, Drama frets over the house; Vince is coming home, and he doesn’t want a single substance around, be it alcohol, pot, or something more intense (like BATH SALTS!!!).

The final season of Entourage begins at the newly-named Murphy Lavin Group. On the phone, Eric is being told by Sloan that he needs to move his stuff out of her place. Meanwhile, Vince , staying at a rehabilitation facility to battle his drug addiction from last season, is now 90 days sober and is ready to be released. To prepare for his return, a paranoid Drama tells Turtle to get rid of all of the drugs and alcohol lying around in the house - even Advil, aspirin and cough medicine. “He’s pitching a ‘Movie Of The Week,’ ” Billy Walsh snarls at one point (or maybe it only sounds like he’s always angry). The rest smartly focuses less on Vince’s star power/career, and more on rebuilding the friendship his own MOV destroyed last season.

Drama is only partially successful, as Turtle can’t bear to part with everything. E and Scott have taken over the management company they work for, and their names now grace the letterhead. Sloan upsets E when she mails back his engagement ring. Ari is in much the same boat as E, learning Mrs. Ari , from whom he is unhappily separated, is seeing another man.

He is bending over backwards to try to make her happy. Ari's marriage problems with his separated wife go from bad to worse after he pays her a visit. They get into a brief argument when Ari picked up his son Jonah from school (Monday is Mrs Ari's day), but what devastates the agent is when he's told by his wife that she's seeing someone else. For once, Ari is stunned and can't find the energy to talk back. Ari returns to his house and tries to win his wife back.

"Everybody was in tears. And it was just beautiful and so wonderful to see him." It's good that we're continuing to see more to Ari than the neurotic agent. Jeremy Piven has proven in the past that he's a strong actor, and hopefully he'll get more opportunities to show off his acting chops.

Last season, his drug use reveals a brand new, very deep low. With his friends walking on egg shells around him, even Billy Walsh , who knows how Vince feels, they are doing more harm than good. Vince needs to find normal again, albeit a new normal, where mind altering substances are not a part of it.

However, the party is fairly muted, at least until Eric confronts Vince, still bewildered by the fact that Vince never rang him. Add to that his frustration with Sloan, who returned his engagement ring in an envelope, and Eric is having a hard time in this episode. The whole gang, including Ari and Scott, greet Vince on his release, and they all go and sit at a restaurant where Vince is keen to get his career back on track. But Air-Walker starts shooting in March and Vince is keen to do something in between. Vince wants to star in and direct a movie based on something he saw on the news - a mining disaster in Romania where 15 men were stuck underground for a month. Everyone reluctantly tells him the idea is awesome to not hurt his feelings.

After ten weeks of being apart, Ari is letting work slip, though, as Lloyd points out. This is a change for the sharkish agent, and almost a tad regrettable. Ari does have a tendency to let work rule his life when it shouldn’t, but only because he cares so deeply for his family and certain clients. However, Mrs. Ari says she wants Ari to put family first, and he is doing that now more than ever.

The compassion is there, the comedy is there, and barring some unforeseen crap in the near future, I'm going to chalk this episode up as just a lead up into greater things. Basically, I'm giving it a 9 based solely on the warm and funny feeling I got from watching a new Entourage episode and watching the guys continue to grow and evolve. However, if this was a show that I had never seen before, I fear my vote would be far less generous. Deep inside my critical and skeptical noggin was a lot of unanswered questions right from the very start. Questions about Eric and Sloan, Eric and Lavan and about Eric and Vince. Hmm...now that I write that all out in full, I think I see a pattern emerge.

Billy helps Vince with his movie idea, but has Johnny starring in the project instead. But you know, “somber” is at least different than previous Entourage’s. This time around, the episode had a decent build on its own, and set the tone for what’ll hopefully be the most real-stakes-y season in Entourage history.
