One thing to note is that Galveston has moved to facial recognition, meaning you simply take a photo that’s verified instead of having to meet with an agent (if you have a passport). In some cases, we’ve debarked and barely had to stop before making our way out the terminal. One good thing about driving to Galveston is that there is ample parking right near the port that’s affordable.

Its location makes it a convenient spot to set sail as it only takes minutes for the ships to get out to the open water. Disney Wonder is currently based in Galveston cruise port and offers a choice of cruise itineraries for families. In 2018, Disney signed a new option for two additional 5-year periods and was projected to double its sailings out of Galveston by 2028. All these options allow you to sit back and enjoy the ride while the driver navigates right to the drop-off point ship-side.

Getting to the Port of Galveston (Transportation)

SchlitterbahnThe famous Texas waterpark with several locations around the state has a park in Galveston. Here you can relax on a lazy river, get extreme on tons of different slides, and even surf a standing wave. There are also a number of options for all ages so whether you have a toddler or a teenager, they will find a lot to do at Schlitterbahn Galveston. There aren’t a ton of hotels right at the port (but there are a few). Galveston isn’t that large, so in reality every hotel is just a few minutes away. Once off the ship, you’ll make your way through the terminal and pick up any luggage you set outside your cabin.

Another option for passengers traveling from Houston or nearby areas is to use shuttle services that offer direct rides to the port. Many hotels in Houston offer this service as part of their packages, so it’s worth checking with your hotel before booking other transportation options. Along with the cruise terminal, four different parking lots were built that put you a short distance from the ship.

With so many options to choose from, you’re sure to find a valuable way to spend time before embarking on your cruise. If you’re itching for an educational twist on your pre-cruise recreation, Galveston has plenty of historical offerings. Bishop’s Palace is an ornate 19th century home that sits six minutes from the port by car. Moody Mansion is another historic building in Galveston, located three minutes from the port by car (or a 15-minute walk). For $15 per person per house (children ages 5 and under can tour for free).

The first thing that you’ll notice is the large blue façade with the massive Royal Caribbean logo sitting proudly at the center. On either side of the main terminal building are luggage drop-off areas and plenty of space to pull up and drop off passengers or baggage. Located near the Galveston Ship Channel, Seawolf Park Beach provides scenic views of passing ships and access to fishing piers.

This fully-functional antique vessel makes for a popular and interesting attraction. Once you have identified and collected your luggage, you will need to produce your passport at immigration to re-enter the USA. If you are importing alcohol and tobacco, dues will be collected by the TABC (Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission) as you pass through the terminal. If you need to debark ahead of your designated time, you must see the Customer Service desk and arrange a new debarking time/group. If you try to disembark ahead of your group, you will be turned away by security.

Step inside the main terminal doors and you’re greeted by a large open atrium. At the center is another Royal Caribbean logo, flanked on either side by two massive video boards showing videos to get you excited about the cruise. If driving to the port, the address to use is 1152 Royal Caribbean Way.
